          This page has information about, and links for, 136 annual Wisconsin Music Festivals held everywhere in the state for all musical genres. Like other festival link sites, this page lists festivals in date order. Unlike other sites, the entire list is completely cross-referenced by city, by county, by genre (type of music), and by Festival Name. The information about past festivals listed on this page is also saved as a permanent part of the musical history of Wisconsin.
          Unless otherwise specified, all listed festivals support local music by always including at least one Wisconsin based musical act. Events not specifically called "Music Festivals" may be listed if they have a minimum of four musical acts performing on at least one day, and the acts are listed by name in their publicity. As defined on this website, any musical event that has three or fewer named acts on any given day is called a "concert". Please write if you know details about any unlisted music festival held in any Wisconsin city, or if you know where bands marked by "(?)" are from.

          Someday an organization will exist with a title the same or similar to "The Wisconsin Live Music Clearinghouse". It will serve in a real "musical event information clearinghouse" capacity, with the following tentative goals:

1. Solicit information about all concerts statewide, not just festivals, from all Wisconsin music societies and organizations, music venues, and musicians.
2. Resolve to the satisfaction of all parties concerned, similar, or conflicting events, primarily festivals, held on the same day, at the same time, and which either feature the same type of music, or are held within say 100 miles of each other. The Clearinghouse would also determine what constitutes a conflict and what does not. Maybe two Polka festivals 100 miles apart would not compete with each other, but two Bluegrass festivals that close to each other would compete. Festivals which directly compete for the same finite pool of possible attendees, do a disservice to the good name of their festival, to the fans who can attend one or the other, but not both, and especially! to the musicians who are denied the opportunity of booking another possible paying gig.
             This conflict determination might be a very difficult task, and all conflicts may not be resolved, but it will not be for lack of trying to do so. The most important aspect of such a clearinghouse, is that unlike the current situation where many festival producers have no knowledge of what other producers are doing, the clearinghouse would provide the knowledge that each producer needs in order to start dialogs with others that would be of mutual benefit to all the festivals, fans and musicians.
             Even if it proves impossible to resolve even one conflict, just having a central source for every musical event in the state should be reason enough for the existence of this organization.
3. In addition to posting every known event in the state to Musi-Cal, publicize all concerts and festivals in every other way possible, and in whatever manner is appropriate for the music being performed: websites, newspapers, magazines, radio, television, etc.
4. To achieve the previous goal, develop regular two-way communication with as many local Wisconsin newspapers, music tabloids and magazines, and radio/TV stations as possible. Similar sources in neighboring states who might already promote in one way or another one or more Wisconsin events and musicians should also be contacted regularly.
5. Develop a publicly available on-line informational database in conjunction with Musi-Cal of all concerts, all festivals, all venues, and all Wisconsin resident musicians. This database needs to be completely accessible by date, by city/county/area, by musician, and by musical genre.
6. And lastly, solicit funding and/or donations from wherever it can be found: individuals, corporations, foundations, endowments, bequests, and even sponsor benefit concerts whenever and wherever appropriate. All the above cannot be done as completely and efficiently as is needed with just all volunteers. At least some paid staff are needed for the continuing viability of the organization.
