Folk Instruments almost never used in other genres of music:

Folk Music Topics:
  1. Acoustic Blues (preceded the Chicago Electric Blues of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and B.B. King)
          - Rev. Edward W. Clayborn (19??-19??) (The Guitar Evangelist), "Complete Recorded Works 1926-1928" (Cover Scan) [Document DOCD-5155] - Track 23 "I Shall Not Be Moved" (old song recycled 30 years later during the 1960's Civil Rights Movement)
          - Jesse Fuller (1896-1976), "Brother Lowdown" (Cover Scan) [Fantasy FCD-24707-2] - Track 1 "San Francisco Bay Blues"
          - John Hammond (1943-), "The Best of John Hammond" (Cover Scan) [Vanguard VCD-11/12] - Track 10 "32-20 Blues" [New York, NY]
2nd generation musicians carrying on the tradition of Acoustic Guitar Blues created by African-Americans:
        African-American: - Guy Davis - Keb'Mo' - others?
Caucasian: - Scott Ainslie - Rory Block (Her Father, Allan Block, was born in Oshkosh, and her grand parents founded Block Iron & Steel, now known as Sadoff & Rudoy, but she has never lived in Wisconsin.)
    - Roy Bookbinder - Bob Brozman - Paul Geremia - John Hammond - Catfish Keith - "Spider" John Koerner - Del Rey - Les Sampou - Chris Smither - Catfish Stephenson (Madison) , and the late - Jo-Ann Kelly - Dave "Snaker" Ray (Milwaukee, Superior, Eau Claire) of - Koerner, Ray & Glover - Dave Van Ronk - others?

Just as there are nationally popular Singer/Songwriters like Joni Mitchell and James Taylor who almost exclusively sing songs they have written, there are literally thousands of Folk and Acoustic Singer/Songwriters who do the same but who have never made it to the Top-40. Some also use the "Folk Process" to either write new verses to old songs, or change either the melody or the entire focus of an old song.

  2. The Folk Process Modifying the words or tune of old songs
          - Barbara Hoffman (19??-), "Good Day to be Alive" (Cover Scan) [Self Released] - Track 6 "How Can I Keep from Singing" (Appleton, WI)
          - Arianne Lydon (19??-), "Lady of the Green" (Cover Scan) [O'Vert OR-9865-2] - Track 11 "Endless Song (aka How Can I Keep from Singing)" (Viroqua, WI)
Other old songs she has written new music for, "Clementine", "Home on the Range", "Cindy"
  3. Humor
          - Steve Hazell (1951-), "Songs From The Northland" (Cover Scan) [Golden Oak GOM-005] - Track 8 "Driving A Mess" (Oshkosh)
          - Lou & Peter Berryman (1947/1947-), "Double Yodel" (Cover Scan) [Cornbelt CD-10] - Track 7 "Double Yodel" (Madison)
          - Lou & Peter Berryman, "Double Yodel" - Track 2 "If (Dueling Paranoias)"

And to finish up with just one example of the world class singers and instrumentalists based in Wisconsin:
          - Arianne Lydon (19??-), - "The Open Harp" (Cover Scan #1) [O'vert CC-5060-2] - Track 9 "Fireflies"
[Celtic Harp and 12-string guitar played simultaneously (Cover Scan #2)]
