In the Beginning, by Mary J. Park, is a collection of fifteen articles that have appeared in the Autoharp Quarterly Magazine. The purpose of the articles has been to offer advice and instruction to beginning autoharp players. The articles cover topics such as picks, tuning, playing melody, rhythm fills, reading music, transposing music to another key. Most of the articles include a tune on which to practice the new skill. Getting Started on the Mountain Dulcimer

is a book of instruction for the mountain dulcimer based in the Myxolydian tuning of Dadd (84 pages and 28 arrangements). The book covers playing chords, strumming, playing chords behind melody, fingerpicking, flatpicking and embellishments. This field-tested book is also a great resource for traditional tunes that can be played on the mountain dulcimer.  This book is made with a special sturdy cover so that it will tolerate lots of use while you learn to play.
