Cachet Display Catalog: FDC Cachetmakers Index
This page displays World War II Poster Stamps derived from posters created by 50 different artists for
Artists for Victory, Inc. (A4V or AFV) of New York, NY.
Out of the 50 artists whose World War II posters were selected for this series of "Artists for Victory" Poster Stamps, only 9 have
Wikipedia pages and only 6 have pages at the
New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) which held the Nov. 25, 1942 - Jan. 3, 1943 first Exhibition displaying 214 out of the 2,224* posters entered in the
National War Poster Competition (NWPC) (MoMA). It is unknown how many of the posters shown on the 50 stamps on this page were included in the Exhibition. As far as I know, no photos were taken of all 251 posters in the Exhibition, or if they were, I cannot find where they are displayed in one place on the Web, much less a display of every one of the 2,200+ posters in one place. Thirty-seven percent (37%) of the total entries were by women. In 1942,
Artists for Victory, Inc., had 10,000 members.
* The 2,224 total number of posters is from the two official press releases shown on the above MoMA Competition page. However, the sheet of Poster Stamps states there were a total of 2,243 competition entries.
