Cachet Display Catalog: FDC Cachetmakers Index
This page displays Dr. Seuss
(Theodor Seuss Geisel / Ted Geisel, 3-02-1904 Springfield, MA – 9-24-1991 La Jolla, CA) World War II Political Cartoons which appeared in
PM Magazine (newspaper) in the early 1940's printed on previously uncacheted First Days Covers (FDC's). Ted Geisel was NEVER a "Cachetmaker", so he does not qualify for listing among the other World War II patriotic cachet designers. These 48 displays on this page are only a sample of all these existing add-ons. As of 08-17-2022, 563 of these covers have been offered for sale on eBay.
These add-ons so far have appeared only on FDC's for the thirteen (13) "Overrun Nations" releases of 1943-1944. It is unknown why this unknown printer's add-ons have not yet appeared added to any other issues.
I have never seen any of these add-ons in person, but you can see that every Cartoon element is carefully NOT tied to the cover by either the postmark or the addressee. Some of the original cartoons have been broken up into separate parts to be placed where there is blank space on the cover. None of these Cartoons were on the envelopes on the days they were cancelled, and probably not on the covers for several decades after they were cancelled.
Many of these Political Cartoons appear in "Dr. Seuss Goes to War" by Richard H. Minear (1999), and
"Dr. Seuss & Co. Go to War" by Andre Schiffrin (2009). All of the over 400 political cartoons and war bonds cartoons can be seen on the
"Dr. Seuss Goes to War" by Richard H. Minear page on the UCSD site.
"The Dr. Seuss Collection in the Mandeville Special Collections Library at the University of California, San Diego [UCSD], contains the original drawings and/or newspaper clippings of all of these cartoons."

"Quick, Henry, the Flit!" was part of an advertising campaign that Geisel created.

What's New on this page
-- changes since 05-23-2022:
08-17-2022:
I won't be adding more scans to this page. I first noticed these add-ons to uncacheted Overrun Series of FDC's at eBay in August 2019, and new sets have continued to be added-on and put up for eBay auction every month or so since then. As of today I have saved scans for
563 of these add-ons that have been created in 49 separate sets. Unless I find out any other information about them, when the "last updated" date at the top of the page changes the only thing that will change is the number of scans I have.
05-30-2022:
Added these "References" and "What's New" sections.
