Cachet Display Catalog: FDC Cachetmakers Index
This page displays World War II Patriotic cachets published in 1942 by the American Art Service (AAS) of Chicago, Illinois. The artist for all these designs is unknown. I have seen only a few 1941-1945 canceled covers serviced as
U.S. Scott Numbered First Day Covers (FDC). Some left-over blanks have been used to service more recent FDCs. The covers are listed in alphabetical order of the text printed on the cachet, which is the order that Lawrence Sherman cataloged them.
Some of these cachets were printed on two different types of envelopes, those with stars on the front and/or back and those without stars. Most of the covers I have seen do not have stars. Twenty-six (26) different cachets of the 28 designs listed by Sherman are displayed on this page, including two designs for which he assigned unique catalog numbers for the same cachet printed on envelopes with and without stars. As noted by "++", several cachets were decribed as "[w/, w/o stars]", but they were not given unique catalog numbers There are no Cachetmaker identification marks on the backs of any covers, so the only backs displayed here are those that have stars. I have not seen these starred envelopes with cachets by any other WW II Patriotic Cachetmaker.
