Cachet Display Catalog: FDC
Cachetmakers Index
This page is a work-in-progress. Its goal is to display all 11,060 cachets listed in the 2nd edition of Lawrence Sherman's Patriotics Catalog. There are 489 cover scans on this page, so far. I will be adding many more to this page as I have the time to do so. Unfortunately, Dr. Sherman did not scan every cover in his collection before it was sold by Harmer-Schau in 2006, so I am trying to rebuild this collection one scan at a time. With exceptions like Huss and Minkus, I own very few of the rest of these covers. Note that I will be displaying only the best example cover scan I can find for each Sherman design number without regard to any special event cancellation date on the cover. However, priority is given to covers canceled as First Day Covers.
I have seen several mentions of covers made and/or serviced by Patriotic Cover Exchange Club (PCEC) members. Does this club still exist? Other mentions are about the War Cover Club (WCC). Does this club still exist?

No known to me scan of this cover exists, with cachet or without. Whether any legitimately canceled cacheted cover exists has been debated, mostly because it was a Sunday when most Post Offices were closed. Fake back-dated covers exist. Second day covers do exist, canceled 12/8/41, see S2#717 and S2#9780. |
