Cachet Display Catalog: FDC Cachetmakers Index

      This page is a bibliography of all known editions of the "AFDCS Directory of Current Cachetmakers" which have had numerous different titles since the first one was published in FIRST DAYS in 1976. These editions list First Day Cover Cachetmakers and/or Cachet Lines which have been in business since 1976. Each entry includes their contact and other information which was current at the time of publication. There may have been other unlisted FDC Cachetmakers since 1976, but they did not notify the American First Day Cover Society (AFDCS) of their existence.

      Note: If you see in the various published indexes of FIRST DAYS, articles entitled "Cachet Makers and Servicers", these were the predecessors to the continuing "First Cachets" series of articles with first and last day cachets by U.S. Scott number listed in Cachetmaker order, with short write-ups of cachet maker's first and last day cachets, or actual updated Indexes by Cachet Maker, and are not directly related to the Directories documented on this page.

      The latest edition, AFDCS Directory of Current Cachetmakers, January 2024, lists "First cachet" for 81 of the 153 makers. In the earliest editions, "First Cachets" are not mentioned.

      (Indexed) = A work-in-progress Index to the entries in these Directories is available on the AFDCS Directory of Current Cachetmakers Index page. At this time, the first nine editions, 1976-1983 and the April 2018 through the 2021 editions have been Indexed. Cachetmakers in the 2021 Directory are marked with a double asterisk "**".

      All FIRST DAYS back issues since 1955, and, except as noted, all Directories below are available on the AFDCS FIRST DAYS 1955-2022 DVD-ROM.

      To this day, 9-01-2021, forty-one years after this seminal First Cay Cover Cachetmaker Directory was published, it is still the only "multiple U.S. Cachetmaker full-color cachet dealer directory" ever published. It contains 70 full-cover color photographs of 70 different cachets by 69 different Cachetmakers or Cachet Lines. I would love to display this entire 56 page Directory on my site, but I cannot. I bought this from Mike Mellone in 1980. He passed away in 2018 without a will. It is unknown who owns the rights to the entire contents of this work, so I am only allowed to display a "Fair Use" sample of what this wonderful work contains.
