Cachet Display Catalog: FDC Cachetmakers Index

This page lists U.S. Stamp Designers, Engravers, Art Directors and Modelers by U.S. Scott Catalog Number. The idea for this page came from the P#799-802-12b F.R. Rice Washington, DC 2nd Day Cover (for #802) displayed at the top of the page that an unknown collector or dealer, presumably in 1937, or shortly thereafter, added additional text to Rice's design and obtained autographs of Postmaster General James A. Farley and all of the Designers and Engravers that created these four issues, #799-802 . I will expand this page beyond those four issues as I have the time. See also:
U.S. Stamp Designers, Engravers, etc. by Name

I have all Linn's Yearbooks (1983-2010) and Max Johl's Volumes 2, 3 and 4 are on order which cover 1901-1937 issues. As far as I know, there are no other books in print that list all Designers, Engravers and other people involved in U.S. stamp creation for the years 1938-1982 or 2011-date. With the exception of #1953-#2002, these books are the sources of the information on this page. As this site is focused on First Day Covers, and the first issue in Planty was from 1901, I will not be listing issues before 5-01-1901. Work on the other pages at this site will continue, so, being 80 years old, it is unlikely that I will complete this project to include all personnel that created all 1901-1937 and 1983-2010 issues. That being said, this page offers information that is not known to me to be otherwise available on-line in a format that is searchable by Designer, etc. name, catalog number, FDOI (all listed in (m)m-dd-yyyy format), FD city (all using official USPS two letter state codes, e.g. ", NY ", without the quotes, will find all listed issues released in New York), denomination (e.g. "20¢", without the quotes) and the issue's subject.

Contents of this page, so far:
    #799-#802 -- #1953-#2002 -- #2031-#2065... (1983 complete)
    #2066- -- 1984 issues (work in progress)
To highlight all issues for a particular year, search for, e.g.: "-1983 --" without the quotes

In addition to all newly issued Commemoratives, Definitives and back of the book issues, Linn's Yearbooks also detail every newly issued USPS and BEP Souvenir Card. However, even though the Yearbooks do not state which individuals designed each one, for the sake of completely indexing all of the U.S. postal issues documented in these books, they are included here, starting with 1983's #SC81.

  19.       For reasons I don't know, and the Linn's Yearbooks don't explain, the USPS continued to issue "Great Americans Series" Definitives in 1983 even after they had started a new replacement Series in 1982.

The about 50 USPS "Transportation Series" Definitives were issued during the period 1982-1998. I have no Designer, etc. print resource for the 1982 issues, but as Linn's Yearbooks did not cease publication until 2010, the other issues in this Series may be added here eventually.
