Special Notes on the 1994 Programs

* The following companies were particularly generous in providing airplay copies of CDs in 1994: Rhino, Malaco/Savoy, Dorian, Centaur, BMG Classics, LaserLight, and Green Hill. Six Malaco/Savoy CDs were used to program nearly two hours of gospel Christmas music, and listener response was extremely positive. Rhino was praised on the air not only for its efforts in making classic Christmas recordings available, but also for being named one of the most socially responsible companies in America.

* The Nylons' "Carol of the Bells" was used in the promo for the programs. Liz Story's "O Come, O Come Emanuel" and her voice were used for station IDs.

* In addition to the CDs shown in the playlist, the programs also included a tape of Christmas music performed by Appleton's White Heron Chorale, and Dr. Grzyb's digital recording of the December 17, 1994 Festival of Lessons and Carols presented by the Oshkosh Chamber Singers.

* For the third consecutive year, Wisconsin's own NorthSound donated CDs and tapes to be given to listeners as prizes in Christmas quizzes. NorthSound is treated as an unofficial sponsor of the programs, and listeners are directed to the familiar displays in local stores to hear excerpts of NorthSound recordings.

* Because many of the CDs in the playlist are not readily available at local outlets, Dr. Grzyb invites listeners to call him for information on how to acquire them. In 1994, the CD that generated the most calls for such information was "Here Comes Another Christmas", an excellent compilation by Syracuse, NY area musicians on the Blue Wave label.

* Two excellent new jazz Christmas CDs were omitted from the programs because they had already received substantial airplay in preceding weeks on WRST's regular jazz programs:
