Cachet Display Catalog: FDC Cachetmakers Index
This page displays all eleven (11) sets of Poster Stamps that I know about, published in Erie, PA up to October 1937 by
Clarence Eugene Laird, father and historian (1861-1937), and
Eugene Clarence Laird, son and cachet designer (1896-1980), of Erie, PA. All Poster Stamps on this page were designed by the Lairds. I have not seen any of these stamps on any 1930's era canceled covers.
Laird Cachet Lines and Laird Company names that appear on the stamps or the selvage:
American Historical Cover Society
Winding Trails Booster Fund
The Halcyon Press, 17 West 16th Street

- #AL1 - Abraham Lincoln (sheet title unknown) -- {A}
... ??cal Anniversary Stamps, sponsored by the
... Eugene C. Laird, Cachet Director, Erie, Penna.
??
The only stamp on this sheet I have seen.

- #WTBF1 - Winding Trails Booster Fund #1 -- {A}
Sheet No. 1 -- These stamps are issued as a receipt for a contribution of 10¢ to the Booster Fund
This issue of Booster Stamps in limited to not more than 1,200 sheets
Other than strictly as collectibles, I don't know what other purpose the Lairds had in mind for how contributors would use these sheets. For the 6 sheets I have, all have no gum and no perfs for separating them into single stamps like all the other poster stamp sheets displayed on this page.
11-07-2023: I found the explanation why these Booster Stamps were issued with no gum. It is shown below to the right of the WTBF1 stamps. It is from "Winding Trails Magazine", December 1935, page 5. Although the article does not mention "Booster Stamps" specifically, WTBF with no gum are the only stamps that fit this description. This also means it is likely that these four sheets were issued sometime in the Spring of 1936.
Row A: 7M -- 8M -- 9M -- 1C -- 5C
Row B: 1M -- 2M -- 3M -- 4M -- 6M
Booster Fund sheets have the same above numbers in the same order on all four sheets. It is unknown what these numbers refer to. No other sheets have these numbers.
